Evil Ted Reviews- Doctor Who: Dark Eyes
There
have been so many regenerations of The Doctor, but the only one that was short
lived was the 8th Doctor. The 8th regeneration, played by
Paul McGann, first hit the screens in 1996 on Fox when he regenerated from the
7th Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy. Since then he’s been
traveling through space and time on all kinds of adventures in book and audio
form, with many companions like Grace Holloway (TV Only), Lucie Miller (Audio
Play), and his latest companion Molly O'Sullivan aka Dark Eyes.
Dark
Eyes is an audio drama set after the audio episode “To the Death”, as we hear
The Doctor dealing with the events of the last story while being sent on a
mission by the Timelords who have uncovered terrifying fragments of an insane
plot to destroy the universe. And somehow, at the centre of that plot is one,
random female in Earth’s history, Molly O'Sullivan. Now Doctor and Molly find
themselves thrown headlong into a series of dangerous and terrifying adventures
with the Daleks on their tails.
This
audio adventure is a pretty good follow up to the last one because we get hear
the Doctor kinda still grieving of the loss of his last companion. He hear him
go through the motions when it comes to the one’s he has lost big time and when
he deals with the Daleks he is beyond mad. All throughout though he is trying
to figure out Molly, why her eyes are so dark, why she can fly the TARDIS, and
why the Daleks and Timelords want her.
Looking
at the cover of this audio drama, you get to see the 8th Doctor’s
new outfit and screwdriver. This much explained in the behind the scenes audio
feature, but this will mark the first time the Doctor changes up his clothes
and sonic screwdriver. The outfit was reviled about three years ago at “Armageddon
Pop Culture Expo 2010”. Although I do like the new outfit, I do miss the old one a
bit. It had a Victorian feeling to it that I liked and he the hair is what made
it work, but I can understand the need for change.
Anyway,
if you like Doctor Who, if you like audio dramas, this is for you. You
basically get one full season of Doctor Who in four parts. It’s not the end
though, oh no. There will be more Dark Eyes adventures on the upcoming 8th
Doctor Adventures, Dark Eyes 2 & 3 both coming out in 2014, and Dark Eyes
4, coming out in 2015.
You can currently find the story at Big Finish or Amazon.
